carnival watches reviewIf you’ve never heard of Carnival watches, don’t be surprised.  They’re one of many watch companies from Asia, and it’s hard to keep up with them.  Carnival watches aren’t new, however; the company has been making watches since 1986, which actually makes them pretty well established.

The watches are made in China, and offer a surprisingly diverse range of styles and a large feature set.  Sure, they make a nice time-only watch, but if you want a chronograph, moon phases, power reserve indicators of other complications, they’ve got that, too.

Not only that, but the brand offers all of this at an attractive price point, making their timepieces affordable for just about everyone.

Summary

Carnival Watches Build Quality

The build quality is surprisingly good, especially when compared with other watches from China.  Cases are stainless steel, where other manufacturers use the vague “alloy.”  Watch faces are protected with mineral crystal.

Water resistance ranges from 30 meters to 100 meters.  Not good for diving, but at least you can rest assured that it’s OK to get your watch wet.

Straps and bracelets are available in leather and stainless steel.

Movements

These watches are available with both quartz electronic movements and automatic mechanical movements that are sourced from Japan.

Many Chinese manufacturers use Japanese movements, even though they cost more, because they’re more reliable and because Chinese consumers like to purchase foreign products.

Most Japanese-made watch movements are quite reliable and will likely give you little trouble in the years to come.

Innovation

While you won’t find any true innovation in Carnival watches, as they haven’t really invented anything new, the company does seem to take pride in offering watches with lots of complications.

They make models that are time-only, but you’ll also find chronographs, date complications, day/date complications, moon phases, power reserve indicators, skeleton faces, dual time zones, and more.

As far as we know, all Carnival watches models feature luminous hands, making it easy to tell the time in the dark.

This brand offers a lot of features, despite having a relatively affordable price point.

Styling and Features

Styling is all over the place with Carnival watches, as they offer more than 100 models for men and women.  Their cases tend to stick to the classic round shape, and colors are your basic black, white, silver, gold, and blue, but beyond that, they’ve got a pretty diverse range of styles.

Case sizes range from quite small to huge, and most models feature at least one non-time complication.  You won’t find precious metals or gemstones in Carnival watches, due to their price point, but you will find a few models with faux-diamond crystals.

The company not only makes watches for both men and women, but they have a number of styles that are sold as a pair, with identical men’s and women’s watches in a set.

Men’s models are typically about 40mm in size, while women’s models are closer to 26-28mm.

Care and Maintenance

Care and maintenance is fairly easy.  Automatic mechanical models will need to be worn on a regular basis in order to keep the watch running correctly.  These models are self-winding and wind from the movement of the wearer’s arm.  If you’re wearing the watch on a regular basis, it should continue to run well for the indefinite future.

Models with calendars will likely need to be reset once per month.

Models with quartz movements will need to have the battery replaced every 3-5 years.  In addition, you should store your watch away from extremes of temperature and strong magnetic fields, as these can adversely affect the watch movement.

With proper care, you’ll likely get a number of years of use from your watch.

Carnival Watches Warranty

We have not been able to find any specific information about the warranty offered with this brand.  Most Chinese-made watches offer a one-year manufacturer’s warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship.

Some retailers may offer a longer warranty, so you may wish to ask about this at the time of purchase.  Amazon, for example, offers a two year warranty on all watches sold on the site.

Prices

As designer watches go, you’ll find that the prices are quite reasonable.  Most models are priced between $75-$200, and we haven’t seen any models above that range.

Models sold as his/hers pairs are typically priced in the $175-$225 range.

That’s a decent price for a stainless steel watch with a Japanese movement, especially for models that include multiple complications.

Prices will vary slightly from one retailer to another, but this is a fairly representative price range.

Where to Buy

You can find these watches for sale at a number of brick and mortar retailers, such as Macy’s and Kohls, along with a number of online retailers.

Online retailers have lower overhead and may provide your best opportunity to buy discount Carnival watches.  You may also find that online retailers have a slightly larger selection, though most every seller of the brand will have a good representative sample of the company’s product line.

As the company currently offers more than 100 different models, we’d be surprised if anyone had all of them in stock at any one time.

Carnival Watches Summary

Just as no two watches are alike, the same can be said for watch buyers.  Some people want gold, platinum, diamonds, and hand-crafted mechanical complications.

Other buyers like the complications, but are content to have them in an affordable, mass-produced timepiece.

If that describes you, then you might find Carnival watches to be to your liking.  The company makes affordable timepieces using high-quality Japanese movements.

You’ll find a variety of complications and styles for both men and women and even a number of styles that can be purchased as a his/hers pair, all for an affordable price.

If you want a good balance of features and price, then you should definitely take a look at Carnival watches.
