That may seem like an odd way to start a watch brand review, but the cafe racer, a sleek, performance-first motorcycle, was the inspiration for CT Scuderia watches.

They’re Swiss-made, but they were designed by an Italian, Enrico Margaritelli.  They’re big.  They’re bold.  They are not subtle.

If you’re looking for a watch that will not attract attention, this brand would not be a good choice.

If you’re looking for a watch that will definitely draw attention, then they’d be ideal for you.

Summary

CT Scuderia Watches Build Quality

The build quality is good, as you’d expect.  These are watches designed for active people, and active people tend to break things.

These watches feature stainless steel cases.  The cases have screwed-on lugs, and the crown and chronograph buttons are located at the 12 o’clock position, which protects them from damage.

The watch face is protected by rock-hard, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.  Water resistance is good; models are rated at 100 meters of water resistance, which means you can immerse them in water, though deep diving isn’t recommended.

Straps are leather or silicone, though a few models feature stainless steel bracelets.

Movements

Models are available with both automatic mechanical movements and quartz electronic movements.  Both are Swiss-made, like the watches themselves, and are reportedly sourced from Ronda, a large manufacturer of watch movements.

Ronda movements are known for being both reliable and accurate, so your CT Scuderia watches should keep good time for years to come.

Innovation

While we haven’t seen any unique complications in CT Scuderia watches, they do have a rather innovative case design.  The 6 o’clock lugs are mounted by screws, rather than cast, as they are on many watch brands.

The crown and pushers (on chronograph models) are located at the 12 o’clock position, in order to resemble a stopwatch, which is a reminder that these watches were inspired by racing motorcycles.

It’s not just a clever look, however; you can remove the watch from the strap, attach a neck strap, and actually use one of these watches as a stop watch.

That’s a rather unique feature we haven’t seen before.

Big and bold; that’s what this brand is all about.  And we mean big.  All models of these watches have case sizes that are 44mm across.  That’s not the average; that is the case size.

The company’s watches are available in dozens of models, in a variety of styles, but they all have 44 mm cases.  They’re big.  There are no women’s models.  This is what they make, and that is that.

They do, however, offer a diverse range of styles, from the austere and traditional time-only models to a few that are covered with diamonds.  Colors favor black and white, but there are some bold reds, greens and blues in the product line, as well.

Straps are leather, silicone or stainless, so you can pick the one that works best for you.  If you’re out getting hot and sweaty, perhaps racing a bike of your own, you won’t want the leather.  That’s where the silicone can come in handy.

Not surprisingly, there are a lot of chronographs in the product line.  That’s partly because they’re popular among watch buyers these days, but it’s also because, again, these are racing-inspired watches and racers just like to time things.

Care and Maintenance

If you own one of the models with a quartz electronic movement, your maintenance will be minimal; you’ll need to have the battery replaced every few years.

If you own a mechanical model, you may need to have the watch serviced by an authorized service center every five years or so.  Mechanical models are susceptible to wear, and worn parts lead to poor timekeeping.  We didn’t see a maintenance schedule on the company’s Website, so we’d recommend that you contact the company about this if you purchase one.

Aside from these considerations, you should store your watch away from extremes of temperature and store them in a cool, dry place.

With proper care, your watch should run well for decades to come.

CT Scuderia Watches Warranty

The warranty offered with the purchase is the industry standard.  They are guaranteed against defects in materials and craftsmanship for two years from the date of purchase.  Nearly all of the watch brands we’ve reviewed carry a two year warranty.

Defects are likely quite rare, as the movements are well-tested and are known to be quite reliable.

Prices

As you might expect, with Italian styling and Swiss build quality, these watches are not inexpensive.  On the other hand, they’re not outrageously priced, either.

We’ve seen them priced between about $500 and about $5000, which puts them in the “moderate” level when it comes to the pricing of designer watches.  Sometimes, we’ve even seen a few models on sale below that $500 figure, especially online.

Where to Buy

You can buy the brand at select brick and mortar retailers around the world, along with a number of company-approved online retailers.

You’ll be more likely to find them in brick and mortar stores that specialize in watches, rather than in general department stores.

Many of the larger Websites that sell wristwatches carry the brand, and shopping online may make sense for most buyers, since it may offer the best opportunity to buy discount CT Scuderia watches.  Oddly enough, you cannot buy CT Scuderia watches at the company’s Website.

CT Scuderia Watches Summary

If you like motorcycles, motor sports in general, or big, bold, statement chronographs, you’re going to love these watches.  With their standard 44 mm case size, they’re not for everyone, but most models are functional stopwatches, with a unique crown-on-the-top styling.

CT Scuderia watches are well made, with Swiss-made construction and reliable Ronda movements.  They offer inspired Italian design, and while they’re not cheap, they won’t break the bank for serious watch collectors.
