Rolex Pearlmaster Review
Rolex has long been known for creating attractive, reliable watches. They’ve been leaders in innovation, and they’ve set all kinds of records for water resistance. Many of their models, however, are designed for specific uses, such as diving. The Rolex Pearlmaster, on the other hand, was created to show off the wristwatch as a piece of fine jewelry.
That being the case, this celebrated watch comes in a wide variety of sizes and styles, all of which seem to feature gold and many of which include copious amounts of diamonds. While no Rolex watches can be considered to be bargains, buyers will find the product line is going to be a bit more expensive than most other watches from this Swiss manufacturer. That said, you’ll likely be more than happy with your purchase.

Here is how Rolex describes it:
The Rolex Pearlmaster is Rolex’s crowning jewellery watch. Featuring the softly curved lines of the Pearlmaster design, it is characterised by uniquely rich dials and exquisite gem settings of diamonds, sapphires or rubies and available only in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold made by Rolex in its own foundry.
As with all products from the company, the build quality is exceptional. As described above, cases are all of gold, either yellow, white or “Everose.” Water resistance of the Rolex Pearlmaster is good, though not spectacular by Rolex standards, at 100 meters. That’s sufficient for most needs, as you’re unlikely to go deep sea diving while wearing a watch that is covered with precious gems. The watch face is protected by rock-hard sapphire crystal, and the watch features a screw-down crown.
The Perpetual movements are developed in-house, and they are Swiss-made automatic mechanical movements. Power reserve is a strong 70 hours, and the watches are certified as Chronometers, with an expected accuracy of +/- 2 seconds per day.
There is a bit of innovation here; their models offer a date complication that feature the company’s “Cyclops” lens over the date window, which magnifies the date and makes it easier to read. The watch bracelets have a concealed clasp, making them appear to be seamless.
This series may offer the most diverse selection of styles of anything the company makes. At last count, there were more than 300 different variations of the Rolex Pearlmaster available. Cases are available in three shades of gold. The watches are available with and without date complications. There are a number of watch face options available. You can have the watch set with diamonds, rubies, or sapphires. Finally, the watch case is available in 29, 34,or 39 mm sizes. This watch is available in both men’s and women’s models, though the majority of the models seem to be tailored for women.
As the line consists entirely of self-winding automatic mechanical movements, you will have to send them to the factory or an authorized service center every few years for maintenance. The service will involve disassembling the watch to examine it for broken or worn parts, and replacing them, if necessary. The watch will then be cleaned and reassembled, tested to ensure that it is working properly and then cleaned again before returning it to you.
Aside from this consideration, you should also store your watch away from strong magnetic fields and extremes of temperature. With proper care, your watch should run well for decades to come.
The warranty offered with the purchase of a Rolex Pearlmaster is the industry standard. Your watch will be warranted against defects in materials and craftsmanship for two years from the date of purchase. As these watches are tested thoroughly at the factory prior to shipping, defects are likely quite rare.
As the Rolex Pearlmaster product line is quite diverse, so is the range of prices. We’ve seen models priced as low as about $10,000 or so, but some variations are priced in the upper five figure range. This is to be expected in a line of luxury watches that feature precious metals and gemstones. That said, you can likely find a number of models that are priced in the $10,000-$20,000 range.
Like many luxury brands, Rolex likes to tightly control sale and distribution of their products. That means that they are officially sold only through company stores and company-approved retailers. This allows the company to maintain strict pricing controls, which helps prevent “dilution” of their brand. On the other hand, there are a number of retailers of “gray market” watches that can sometimes offer them at a discount. You can find them online at a number of reputable retailers.
Be aware that since the watch is available in more than 300 variations, no single retailer is likely to have more than a few different models for sale. Then again, they’re all attractive, so it shouldn’t be too hard to find one you like, regardless of how many the dealer happens to have for sale.
While Rolex watches are attractive and functional, few of them have the appearance of fine jewelry. The exception is this one, which was intended from the ground up to be the company’s fine jewelry line of watches. That means that all of them feature gold cases; stainless steel is not even offered. They are all either yellow, white or rose gold, and all of them are adorned with diamonds, sapphires or rubies.
That makes them the perfect watch to wear for a formal evening on the town, or for any other occasion when you want to dazzle your friends. You’ll pay for that, as the Rolex Pearlmaster is not by any means an inexpensive watch. But it is an attractive one, and at the end of the day, it’s also a Rolex, with all of the quality and accuracy that the name implies.
