Bvlgari Watches – Elegant Quality
You might be familiar with Bvlgari watches, if only because of the awkward name. It’s actually “Bulgari”, but they spell it using that old-school Latin alphabet. It certainly makes the company name memorable, though that’s hardly necessary, as their products are pretty memorable, too.
The company was founded in 1884 as a jewelry company in Italy, and today they make a variety of fashion accessories, including some pretty amazing timepieces. For a company that has been around for more than a century, they’re actually fairly new at the luxury wristwatch game, as their timepiece division wasn’t created until 1980.
Don’t be fooled, however. Their Swiss-made timepieces are beautiful and include great designs, amazing features, and lots of bling, for those who are so inclined. If you like quality, style and good build quality, Bvlgari watches might be a good choice for you.

The build quality is quite good, which isn’t surprising. They are a luxury brand, and they make high-quality mechanical watches in Switzerland. They have a lot of competition, even in their price range, and they wouldn’t be very successful if they didn’t make a good product.
Cases are available in stainless steel, gold, platinum and high tech ceramic. They use clear and rock-hard sapphire crystal. Water resistance varies by model but goes up to 300 meters for some of their sports models. All in all, these are well-built, quality timepieces.
Movements are Swiss-made; they use mechanical and automatic movements for men’s models and automatic and quartz movements for ladies’ models. Many of the models for women are actually elaborate jewelry that includes a watch; it’s simpler to include a quartz movement in such items.
These watches aren’t just about timekeeping, however; the company also takes pride in their watchmaking abilities, and they have numerous high-end watches that feature grand complications. If you like complexity, Bvlgari watches may be a good choice for you.
For a company that is mostly focused on design, you’ll find a lot of innovation in Bvlgari watches. They offer a number of limited edition models that feature complications, including a tourbillon, chimes, chronograph features, and more. Skeleton designs make it possible to see the elaborate works inside. One of their higher end models features more than 850 parts. These are beautiful, highly elaborate timepieces.
There’s a lot of amazing styling to be found here. Along with Chanel, they are not content to make a simple watch that simply looks like a wristwatch. Sure, they make those, but many of their designs are truly out there, especially in the women’s line, where there are many unusual pieces of jewelry that include a watch in them.
They’ve got lots of precious metals and gemstones available, so if you like gold or diamonds, they’re all too happy to accommodate you. Men’s models include basic dress watches as well as sports models, and if you like to look dressy, this brand would be a good choice for you, as these watches just ooze elegance.
As with many high end brands, these watches do require some occasional maintenance. Quartz movements will simply require occasional battery replacement, but mechanical and automatic movements require extra care and occasional servicing. You’ll need to send the watch back to the company every five years or so to have it serviced, which includes disassembly and examination of the parts for wear.
Worn parts are replaced and then the watch is lubricated, reassembled and tested for accuracy and water resistance. The company has a two-tier service process; the basic process includes the above, while the complete service also includes cosmetic cleaning and polishing.
Aside from the above, you’ll want to store your watches in a cool, dry place and keep them away from extremes of temperature. Models with automatic movements should be stored in a watch winder to keep them working properly.
The warranty is the industry-standard two years against defects in materials and workmanship from the date of the purchase. As these are high quality, thoroughly tested mechanical timepieces, defects should be quite rare. You’ll also get an additional one year warranty on any service you have performed on the watch by an authorized service agent.
As with many design-oriented luxury timepieces, you’ll find that prices are fairly expensive. There are models that start at about $2000 or so, but they also have high end limited editions that are priced at about $950,000. They have lots in between, of course.
They have many models available in the $5000-$50,000 range. Pricing varies according to features, movements, case materials and whether diamonds are included. There’s a bit of collector interest in the brand, so out of production models and limited editions may appreciate in value over time.
Like many luxury products, this brand is restricted in both pricing and distribution by the manufacturer in order to avoid diluting the brand name or making their product appear to be “too common.” The company has about 300 authorized dealers around the world, including a few company-owned boutiques as well as authorized dealers who are generally high-end jewelry stores located in major cities.
It can be difficult to buy at a discount, but they are available through a few retailers online. Keep in mind that the company’s product line is pretty large and diverse, so it’s unlikely that any retailer is going to have everything in stock.
For an old company that’s fairly new to the luxury timepiece scene, Bvlgari watches are quite stylish, inventive, well-engineered and well made. They look great, they offer lots of features and style options and there are many limited editions to ensure that you’re not going to be wearing the same wristwatch as your neighbor. Prices range from fairly expensive to exceedingly so, but you’re getting a well-crafted piece of art that also happens to look great. All in all, it’s a nice combination and we think you’ll love Bvlgari watches.
