Philip Stein watches – Attractive and Innovative
You can be forgiven if you’re unfamiliar with Philip Stein watches, as the company isn’t all that old. Unlike a lot of watchmakers who are based in Switzerland, this company isn’t a century old.
In fact, Philip Stein watches first came to market in this century, as the company was founded in 2002 by Will and Rina Stein. Combining interesting styling, good build quality and an unusual feature that isn’t to be found anywhere else, this brand quickly become popular among fans of timepieces, good health and those who simply like a nice-looking fashion accessory.
If you want something a bit unusual, you should consider giving them a look.

The build quality is good; they use stainless steel and gold in their cases and sapphire crystal to protect the face. Bands are leather, stainless steel and gold. Water resistance is relatively modest; most models are rated at no more than 100 meters of water resistance, but then again, these aren’t really sports watches; they’re more for casual, business and formal wear.
All in all, these are well-made timepieces that should last for years with proper care.
The company uses either quartz electronic movements or automatic mechanical movements, both of which are Swiss-made. Many models feature skeleton designs to allow you to see the inner workings, which include their Natural Frequency Technology disc.
The company incorporates a number of complications in some of its models, so if you like chronograph features, dual time zone displays, day and date complications and such, you’ll be happy with their selection. Skeleton designs also allow you to see what’s going on inside and they have a few models that offer that.
The most innovative feature in Philip Stein watches is their Natural Frequency Technology, which uses a disc inside the watch which the company says acts like an antenna to help your body attune itself to natural frequencies, which they claim has health benefits. While this hasn’t been scientifically proven, many owners say they feel better and sleep better while wearing one. We’ll let you be the judge, but this technology is unique to this brand, making it a rather unusual feature, to say the least.
The previously included Natural Frequency Technology disc, which is included in all models, is certainly the most unusual feature to be found in the company’s products.
In addition, they offer many models with dual time zones, and these watches have an unusual, oval-shaped face which stands out in an industry where nearly everything is round. Chronograph models are available, as are high end, limited edition models that feature gold and diamonds.
Bracelets are available in rubber, leather, gold and stainless steel, and their models are available with both quartz and automatic movements, and you can find either movement in models throughout their entire product line, including the high end. Displays are all analog.
The care will depend on the model. Those with quartz movements will require little care aside from battery replacement every two years or so. Automatic models will require maintenance every three to five years, which will require returning the watch to either the manufacturer or an authorized retailer. They’ll clean it, disassemble it and replace any worn or damaged parts.
Aside from these considerations, you should store your watch in a cool, dry place and keep them away from extremes of temperature or strong magnetic fields. Automatic models should be worn regularly or stored in a watch winder to keep them working properly and keeping accurate time. With proper care, your watch should have long working life.
The Philip Stein watches warranty offered with purchase is for two years against defects in materials or craftsmanship. This is the industry average; we’d estimate that 90% of all luxury watch brands offer a similar warranty. As these are precision devices that are thoroughly tested at the factory prior to shipping, we imagine that defective models are probably quite rare.
You’ll find that prices range from modest to quite expensive, as the company’s product line has quite a broad price range. We’ve seen models with a list price of about $400 or so, which is quite reasonable, as luxury watch prices go.
Their top of the line Prestige models are priced at up to $22,000. These models include gold and diamonds and are generally limited edition items. We haven’t yet seen a lot of collector interest in them, but the brand isn’t all that old, so that will probably come in time, especially since these are well-made timepieces that have a truly unique feature. We expect to see prices go up in the future on limited edition models.
You can find the brand for sale at a number of brick and mortar locations, including high end department stores and jewelry stores. You can also find them for sale on the Internet, and that’s likely where you’ll have your best opportunity to buy at a discount.
They offer a lot of models, so don’t be surprised if any single retailer doesn’t have everything they offer in stock, especially when it comes to the higher end, limited edition models. Still, as a rule, they aren’t particularly difficult to find for sale.
Philip Stein watches offer a lot for buyers – good build quality, interesting styling, affordable pricing and a feature that is literally unique and offered in all of their models. We can’t say whether their Natural Frequency Technology is going to help you get better sleep, but it really doesn’t matter – these are nice timepieces that will look great on any occasion. If you like the unusual and favor good quality, you should definitely give Philip Stein watches a look.
