While they now offer a variety of fashion accessories in their product line, their primary focus is on attractive, affordable wristwatches for men and women.  Their styling is unique and they offer a huge variety of colors and styles and their warranty is among the best in the industry.

If you’re interested in affordable style, you should definitely consider Skagen watches when you go shopping for a timepiece.

Summary

Skagen Watches Build Quality

You’ll find that as designer timepieces go, these watches are modestly priced.  That said, they’re well built for their price point, using mineral crystal, stainless steel, titanium and high-tech ceramics for case construction, and high quality Swiss quartz electronic movements.

It’s unusual to see anything other than stainless steel used in cases for timepieces in this company’s price range, but they do, indeed, offer quite a bit of quality for the money. Water resistance for most of their line is modest, at 30 to 50 meters, but these are well-made, quality products.

Movements

At the present time, Skagen watches use Swiss made quartz electronic movements.  These are high-quality, reliable and accurate movements that should run well for years with a minimum amount of hassle and maintenance.

Innovation

The company is interested in offering affordable function, design and style, and aren’t technical innovators in the traditional sense.  They leave that to the industry leaders, such as Breitling, Citizen and Tissot.

What they do is take proven, reliable technology and incorporate it into nice looking wristwatches that they can sell at an affordable price point.  You’re not going to find cutting edge features, such as atomic clock synchronization; but you’ll find the time, the date, and some chronograph features.

Styling and Features

Skagen watches - men's ancher dual timeThe styling is a big part of the appeal; the entire product line of Skagen watches was intended to evoke Danish styling and many of their models look somewhat traditional, but not quite.  They do offer splashes of color and a few designs that are definitely out there.

Their products include models for casual wear, business wear and evening wear, though you won’t find gold or real diamonds in their product line.  A few sports models include chronograph features and a couple of their models include the ability to keep time in multiple time zones.

Their styling is sleek and elegant, and you’ll definitely attract attention when wearing them in public.  With several hundred different models to choose from, you’ll find that their styling offers something for everyone.

The company has recently added some smartwatches to their line.  They’re as attractive as the rest of the company’s line, and as a bonus, they look more or less like traditional wristwatches, while still having the useful features that come with owning a smartwatch.

Care and Maintenance

Skagen watches - women's white diamond accentsMaintenance and care issues are minimal, as their Swiss-made quartz movements require minimal attention or care.  They should run for a couple of years without changing the battery.  You should keep your watch away from extremes of temperature or caustic chemicals, and care should be taken to keep leather bands away from water.

Aside from that, you’ll find that these are relatively care-free timepieces and you should get years of use out of yours with proper care.

Skagen Watches Warranty

Warranties for designer wristwatches are all over the map; we’ve seen some that were for less than a year and others that last a lifetime.  Most, we’ve found, are for about two years.  Here, the company warrants their products for life against defects in materials and craftsmanship.

That’s a great warranty, and while it’s not surprising to see a warranty like that with, say, a Cartier watch, it’s pretty surprising to see one offered for watches that are modestly priced.  That adds a lot of value to your purchase; you know that it’s going to run reliably for years to come.

Prices

Skagen watches - women's white mother of pearlIf you like the styling of this company’s designs, you’ll really love the prices.  As designer wristwatches go, they’re quite affordable, ranging from less than $80 and topping out at about $295 or so.   The company favors women’s models; they currently offer about 150 of them, while they have about 100 different models for men.

These are among the most affordable luxury timepieces out there, and the combination of a lifetime warranty and attractive styling makes them quite a good buy.  In addition, you’ll be able to afford several of them, giving you something to wear for all kinds of occasions.

We haven’t seen any evidence that watch collectors are interested in this brand, so they aren’t likely to appreciate in price or become collector’s items.  Prices on the secondary market are about what you’d expect for timepieces in this price range.  Buy them because you love them; don’t buy them for investment.

Where to Buy

Skagen watches - men's white dial leatherIf you like the watches, you’ll have no trouble finding them for sale.  They’re offered at a variety of places, including fine jewelry stores and many mid to high-end department stores.  They’re also available for sale at a number of online retailers.

As their product line is rather diverse, you may not find any single retailer that carries the entire product line, though many may stock quite a few models.  If you’re looking for something in particular, you may have to shop around a bit.

Skagen Watches Summary

Skagen watches represent an unusual value in the designer timepiece market; they offer a large and diverse line of products, with more than 250 different models from which to choose.  They are reasonably priced, and you can find certain models for about $80 or so, and even the most expensive ones are likely to cost less than $300.

They have reliable and well-built Swiss-made quartz movements and solid case construction.  They have one of the best warranties in the business, and one that’s virtually unheard of for products at this price point.  That makes Skagen watches a great buy and we think you’ll likely want to buy more than one of them.
