Activa Watches Build Quality

Given their ridiculously low price point, the build quality of Activa watches is surprisingly good.  Most of their models have plastic cases, with mineral crystal, rather than the more scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, but the watches do feature reliable Swiss-made quartz movements and most models offer water resistance in the 30 meter to 50 meter range.  These are timepieces that are designed for casual daily wear and not for diving, so those water resistance figures should be more than adequate for just about anyone.

Movements

At the moment, it appears that the movements are all highly reliable quartz electronic movements.  They are, however, sourced from Switzerland, rather than Asia, as you’ll find in many budget brands.  With proper care, you should get a few years worth of use, and for the money, they’re a great value.

Innovation

You’re not going to find much in the way of technical innovation with Activa watches; they’re budget models with all quartz movements.  Because of this, you’re not going to find elaborate complications or other unusual features.  You will, however, find stylish, flashy, colorful design, and that’s the major part of the brand’s appeal.

Styling and Features

Activa watches - Giotto 40The styling is bright and colorful, with models available in nearly any color of the rainbow.  They’re best suited for casual wear, as these are really the kind of watch you’d wear with blue jeans, rather than with a business suit or an evening gown.  Most displays are analog, but there are a number of models that feature digital displays, as well.

The company also offers a few models for children, which makes them rather unusual in that regard.  We don’t see a lot of manufacturers taking interest in that market segment.  Cases and straps are mostly plastic, and this represents a style decision more than a cost-cutting measure.

Care and Maintenance

The care and maintenance is going to be minimal, as they feature quartz movements exclusively.  You’ll need to have the battery replaced every two years or so and you’ll wan to keep your watch stored in a cool, dry place and away from extremes of temperature or strong magnetic fields.  With proper care, you’ll find that these watches will give you a number of years worth of use.

Activa Watches Warranty

Given that these watches are offered for sale at a very attractive price point, the warranty offered with purchase is actually one of the better ones in the industry.  Your purchase is warranted against defects in materials and craftsmanship for five years from the date of purchase.  Given that probably 90% of all watchmakers offer only a two year warranty, this one is exceptional.  When you take into consideration that these watches are quite inexpensive, that makes it even better.

Prices

Activa watches - Elfo 45As designer watches go, you’ll find that prices are among the most affordable in the industry.  We’ve seen models with list prices below $50, and none above $200.  Many models are priced at roughly $100 or so, and we’ve also seen them discounted here and there to as much as 75% off of the list price.

That makes this brand affordable for anyone and they are so inexpensive that you might be tempted to buy several of them in different styles and colors.  It’s possible to buy one for every day of the week and still spend less than $300.  There’s not a lot of collector interest in the brand, so don’t expect to see them rising in value over time.

You absolutely don’t want to buy them as an investment.  Just buy them as a fun way of keeping track of the time that will coordinate well with your daily casual wear.

Where to Buy

You can find this brand for sale in department stores and those that sell inexpensive fashion items.  There are a number of places to buy on the Internet, and that would be your best place to buy at a discount.  Regardless of where you buy them, you’re going to find that they’re priced to meet your budget.  The product line is rather large, so don’t be surprised if no single retailer keeps everything in stock. Still, you should find a good representative sample at any store you visit, whether it’s online or in a brick and mortar location.

Activa Watches Summary

This brand isn’t for everyone; that’s a certainty.  If you like mechanical movements, or elaborate complications, or diamonds, or gold, or even metal cases, you’re going to be out of luck.  You’ll also be out of luck if you like sports watches or chronographs.  That’s not what they’re about.

On the other hand, if you like wacky designs, bright colors, a mixture of analog or digital displays and a timepiece that just suggests casual fun, then this might be a great choice for you.   They offer one of the best warranties in the industry, at five years, which means that they’re going to run for quite a while for your money.

And money will be the least of your concerns, because you can find a number of Activa watches for sale for no more than $50.  That makes them quite the bargain and if you’re cost-conscious, you’ll love Activa watches.
