Gevril Watches Review
There are many Swiss watchmaking companies and some of them are more than 200 years old. Some have seen their glory days come and go and others have remained relevant over the years. Gevril watches come from a company that was once renowned, fell away for a while, and now, thanks to new ownership, is back.
Gevril builds their watches at a factory in Switzerland, and they only produce 6000 watches per year. Their entire line consists of limited edition pieces, with those with gold cases being more limited than those with stainless steel. The make a quality watch with a broad range of prices that should appeal to the pocketbooks of an equally broad range of buyers.
Read on for the full Gevril watches review.
Gevril watches are the lead brand of the Gevril Group, which makes high quality watches for a number of companies. The build quality is quite good. Cases are either yellow gold or 316L stainless steel. The watch face is protected by rock-hard and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal on most of their models. Water resistance is better than most, especially for high end fashion watches. Most models are rated for water resistance to about 150-165 feet, which means that you need not concern yourself if your watch should get wet.
These watches are sold with both automatic mechanical movements and Swiss-made quartz movements. Both are available across a broad range of pricing, so you may find a quartz movement in one of their more expensive models, for instance.
Watches with both movements are available with additional complications; many models include the date, and we’ve seen several models in the product line that include a moon phase complication.
The company is trying to take traditional watchmaking and make it their own through design. While their watches have some elaborate features, we’re not aware of anything that’s cutting-edge or unique to the brand. That’s not to criticize them, but they’re still somewhat of an up and coming brand since their new ownership took over in 2000. They’re trying to reestablish the brand by creating a stylish, quality product that can compete against others in the $500-$10,000 range.
The styling and features are broad and diverse, with a number of models available for both men and women. All models are limited editions, usually limited to 500 pieces with a stainless steel case and 100 pieces with a gold case. The company states that production across the entire product line is limited to 6000 pieces per year.
Besides gold. you’ll find a number of watches in the women’s line that are adorned with diamonds, usually located around the edge of the bezel. Watches are available in a broad range of colors and styles, with models suitable for evening wear as well as those suitable for the workplace or sporting events.
Complications include chronographs and moonphases, along with the more common date feature. Bands may include steel bracelets or leather straps. There’s a broad range of color in the product line, so if you’re looking for something other than the usual white, black, silver or gold, you’ll be in luck with this brand.
The care and maintenance will vary, depending on the type of watch that you purchase. Care for their quartz-powered models is relatively straightforward; you’ll need to replace the battery every year. Their mechanical models will likely need to be serviced every five years or so to ensure that there are no parts that have worn out.
You should store your watch in a cool, dry place and keep them away from strong magnetic fields, as this can adversely affect the movement. With proper care, you should get years, if not decades, of service from your watch
The warranty offered with the purchase of Gevril watches is the industry standard. You will receive a two year warranty against defects in materials and craftsmanship. These are high quality timepieces that are thoroughly tested at the factory prior to shipping, so the likelihood of defects is relatively low.
The range of prices for Gevril watches is quite broad; the company’s GV2 brand is priced in the low to mid hundreds of dollars, with $500 or so being typical. The more elaborate models in the lineup, especially those with gold cases, those with elaborate mechanical movements, or those with diamonds, are going to be more expensive, with watches priced in the $2000-$12,000 range.
Discounts are possible, and we’ve seen them for sale at a number of retailers that often sell at a discount over retail pricing.
You can find Gevril watches for sale at a number of retailers both online and off. While the company does sell a relatively expensive product, they are not one of those brands that sells exclusively through their own network of retailers.
As such, you will find them for sale at a number of better department stores and fine jewelry stores. Due to the limited nature of the product line, you likely won’t find everything that the company makes at any one location, though most retailers should have a good representative sample.
We have also seen the brandfor sale at a number of online retailers, where you will likely find your best opportunity to buy discount watches. Again, no retailer is likely to have everything in stock, but the larger ones will probably have a good selection.
The company has made a nice comeback from being nearly forgotten just a few decades ago. The company is striving to make a high quality watch that’s made in Switzerland from Swiss-made parts. Their watches are attractive and well made, and their limited edition nature makes them appealing to collectors.
If you like bling, you’ll find lots of gold and diamonds, and if you like complications, you’ll find those, too. You’ll also find quartz models if you don’t want to be bothered with mechanical movements, but fans of automatic watches will love the line.
The pricing of Gevril watches makes them suitable for a broad range of buyers and they’re stylish and attractive.
